Dear Pelican Bay Property Owners:
We would like to call your attention to a very important Foundation
Board meeting which has been set for 9 am on Tuesday June 11 at
Hammock Oak Center. This meeting is very important since it will
appoint two new Board members. Your attendance at the meeting is
very needed to maintain democracy in Pelican Bay.
The problem is an attempt by one faction in Pelican Bay to dominate
the Foundation Board. In this case it is the tennis faction which
has a membership of about 1,000 out of about 9,000. We are always
thankful for people volunteering to serve as Board members of the
Foundation Board. The matter becomes quite different however if
a faction seizes control to the detriment of the others.
Recently the two women on the Board, who took office in March, have
resigned. We are not privy to the reasons for that decision but
we can put forward some educated guesses. It is those two seats
which are to be filled at the special meeting.
The present chairman, David Trecker, has undertaken a campaign to
limit access of the membership to Foundation business. The Board
meeting minutes have been limited to giving substantially no information.
He has also appointed special committees which override the established
committees. One of the committees is to reduce restaurant expenses
so the funds can be used for the tennis program. Already there are
plans to build two additional tennis courts, turned down two years
ago, so the tennis players can all play in the morning during season.
There is no data which shows there is such a need.
History has shown that attempts to hide information is only undertaken
for insidious reasons. The further attempt to replace Kyle Kinney
with one of the present Board members appears to be an attempt to
cut off information.
Your consideration of this request is appreciated.
Yours truly,
Dick Laughlin
President
